Library Technology Advisory Committee
The library technology advisory committee (LTAC) assists the Gustavus Public Library board by reviewing, creating, explaining, and implementing library technology proposals.
The Gustavus Public Library board created this standing committee in November, 1998.
Mission
The library technology advisory committee (LTAC) assists the Gustavus public library board by reviewing, creating, explaining, and implementing library technology proposals. Our goals, in priority order, are to:
- Explain technology and suggest related action to the board on specific issues they pass to us.
- Propose technology actions or policies to the board where we see a need.
- Implement the board's technology policies by monitoring progress and making routine decisions as needed.
Membership
LTAC does not have a formal membership except for a designated chairperson/coordinator. Library technology issues are discussed by e-mail on the library technicians mailing list which is open to anyone. Any active participant in LTAC topics on this mailing list is automatically a member of LTAC. Oversight is provided by community members who monitor this mailing list but do not join the LTAC discussions. See http://www.gustavus.lib.ak.us/computer/lists.htm for information on joining the technicians mailing list.
As of December 10, 1998, the library technicians mailing list has the following members:

Meetings
We work largely via electronic collaboration, using the technicians@gustavus.lib.ak.us e-mail list. Rather than formal votes on decisions, we seek consensus. We do meet face-to-face occasionally, usually in the library at 10:00 AM, either one or two Saturdays prior to the monthly library board meeting. Meeting announcements are sent by e-mail.
Electronic Files
Various working documents of LTAC are stored in the library's electronic files at http://gustavus.lib.ak.us/public/library/tech/ltac/
