Library Meeting Minutes 10-13-2007

Monthly Board Meeting

October 13, 2007 
 

Meeting called to order at 8:08 am

In attendance: Anne Gibson, George Jensen, Barb Miranda Bruno, Chris Spute, Janet Lassiter

Others: Sandi Marchbanks 

George moved to approve agenda, Barb seconded. Motion carried 

Janet motioned to approve September Meeting notes.  George seconded. Motion carried. 

Building Maintenance Update

George and Janet have worked with Sylvia. Janet passed around quotes and current budget. We are over budget with building maintenance costs and other areas as well. 

Where is the special order of custom siding? Anne will look into it from Gusto’s end. George will contact Charlie Rice. 

Special budget session will be held October 17 at 9 am to deal with budget. Go through budget and spotlight budget needs before meeting. Chris will talk to Carolyn and see if she can give us past expenditure information. Janet and Chris will both try to attend. 

Rasmuson Foundation Update – Barb talked to Rosie at the Rasmuson Foundation and we can spend the money given to us in any way we choose as long as we stay within the grant parameters of materially enhancing the library. We just have to spell out how we spend the money in the final report. They do not need a letter from us at this point.  

Barb will find out when reporting period ends for Rasmuson Foundation 

General meetings will continue to be 1^st Wednesday of each month at 9am. November meeting conflicts with DRC at this time so some other arrangements may have to be made for the November meeting.  

Sign Update 

Librarian Report – job descriptions

Special Session to deal with job descriptions and hiring will be held October 24^th at 4 pm at the Library. Chris and George are the leads on this. 

Fundraisers

Cookbook – not enough money to print the cookbook. Janet and Anne will continue working on this. 
 

Barb made a motion that Burgers and Bingo remain a Library Fundraiser this year. Anne seconded, passed unanimously 

Bricks – Perhaps we should rethink price for businesses. Board may be able to show financial contribution in this way. George made a motion to purchase a $100.00 brick together as a board. Chris seconded. Motion passed. 

Visiting Writer – judyclemens.com has a great blog about her visit to Gustavus. 

By-Laws Update Janet has passed out example bylaws. Take hard look at fire department bylaws. Special session for bylaws will be Monday the 22^nd at 9am. Janet, Barb and Chris. 

Letter for Carolyn

George makes a motion that George be appointed to write a rough draft to Carolyn. Barb seconds.  Motion passed 4 to 1.
