Resolution No. 2004-03

A Resolution in support of a grant application by the City of Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center (DRC) to provide funding for the purchase of a Trommel Screener to increase the effectiveness of the Gustavus Landfill’s composting operation.

WHEREAS, the Gustavus DRC has, since 1996 increased its composting volume from approximately 3,000 pounds to 75,000 pounds of compost per year, and

WHEREAS, the Gustavus DRC has been highly successful in diverting waste from the landfill, which conserves space and resources, and ultimately increases the life of the landfill, and

WHEREAS, the Gustavus DRC is seeking to expand its operation to allow for larger composting capabilities, create a high-quality compost product that does not contain excess carbon material, and is better suited for beneficial soil amendments, and

WHEREAS, the Gustavus DRC is a regional model for Southeast Alaska,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of Gustavus endorses this grant application for a trommel screener for the Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center.
