Resolution in support of the creation of a standing committee to be called the Road Committee
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GUSTAVUS, ALASKA, CREATING A STANDING COMMITTEE NAMED THE ROAD COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, there exists within the boundaries of the City of Gustavus many miles of commonly used roadways that are not maintained by the State of Alaska nor the National Park Service; and
WHEREAS, these roads are not surfaced and are comprised of sand and gravel; and
WHEREAS, these roads deteriorate during periods of heavy rains, snowfall and spring thaw; and
WHEREAS, there are funds available for the maintenance of these roads through the National Forest Receipts Program via the Alaska State Department of Community and Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gustavus needs a Committee to plan and distribute these funds to insure that these roads are plowed and maintained within budgetary constraints;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Gustavus City Council that the City hereby creates a standing committee named the Gustavus Road Committee to identify public roads, accesses, cul-de-sacs, right-of-ways and private driveways, create a long-term plan for maintenance of these roads, and take the necessary actions to help the City of Gustavus obtain necessary funds to improve these roads.
