Resolution No. 2004-09
Resolution by the City of Gustavus in support of a proposal to replace the aging Gustavus Dock
WHEREAS, the Gustavus dock is the primary marine facility within the City of Gustavus, providing fundamental transportation needs for residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the Gustavus dock was never constructed to perform the various functions which it is currently fulfilling; and
WHEREAS, the Gustavus dock currently exists in a deteriorated state, and is essentially unusable during periods of strong winds, due to its alignment with prevailing seas and the lack shelter; and
WHEREAS, the inevitable failure of the Gustavus dock may preclude the delivery of essential goods and services including liquid petroleum to residents and businesses in the City of Gustavus; and
WHEREAS, the outdated design of the Gustavus dock limits freight services to the last break-bulk carrier in the Pacific Northwest;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Gustavus supports submission of a 2006-2008 STIP Nomination Form to the Alaska Department of Transportation.
