Resolution of the City of Gustavus, Alaska creating a standing committee of the Gustavus City Council named the Parks & Recreation Committee
WHEREAS, there has been, for the previous fifteen years, a community group who have raised monies for the improvement of our parks and the continuation of community activities, and
Whereas, the 4th of July celebration is a time-honored tradition in Gustavus whose yearly organization has become the responsibility of only one or two individuals, and
Whereas, there is a need to make improvements to the existing park at the Salmon River with beautification and safety a priority, and a desire to create new parks and infrastructure, for outdoor activities, and
Whereas, it is in the best interest of the community to have a standing committee to create a long-term plan for park improvements and continue the planning and implementation of the traditional 4th of July celebration, and
Whereas, there is at this time no other committee in place to oversee these operations for the City of Gustavus,
Now therefore be it resolved, that the City Council supports the creation of a standing committee to be called the Parks and Recreation Committee.
PASSED and APPROVED by the Gustavus City Council this 10th day of March, 2005.
