Resolution of the City of Gustavus reclassifying the Lands Selection Committee from a special committee to a standing committee
WHEREAS, the Lands Selection Committee was originally created as a special committee of the City of Gustavus by Resolution 2004-07, dating November 11, 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Committee was charged with the purpose of selecting available lands from the State of Alaska in accordance with the findings of the Community Strategic Planning Committee; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Gustavus have placed a water testing program for safe drinking water as a priority on the Strategic Plan; and
WHEREAS, according to that same Strategic Plan, the citizens of Gustavus have asked that a watershed quality council be created; and
WHEREAS, according to that same Strategic Plan, the citizens of Gustavus have also expressed the desire to foster appreciation for the history, traditions and heritage of Gustavus as it exists within the greater Icy Strait area and develop a community cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the Lands Selection Committee is familiar with the lands available for these purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Lands Selection Committee will serve in conjunction with the Community Strategic Planning Committee to be responsible for developing a formalized process for selecting these lands now and in the future;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council supports the reclassification of the Lands Selection Committee from a special committee to a standing committee of the City of Gustavus called the Lands Committee.
