Where Are They?
Start at the top of this chart and stop at the first folder that could hold the file you are saving or looking for. If saving a file or creating a new sub-folder, please see the standards section.

Folder |
Computer programs (applications) should be installed on either drive C or in the Apps folder. However, it should be only be done by one of the system administrators. Contact one of them for assistance. Note: Available only from library computers. |

Folder More information |
Is
the file private or personal? If so, either store it on a floppy disk (drive A or B) or use your sub-folder in the home folder (drive H:). Make a personal folder in the patron folder if you do not have your own computer account. |
| Public
Folder More information |
Should the file be available for public review (read-only)? If yes, it should be stored in the public folder (drive P:). Also, consider whether it should be published on the web site. |
| Group
Folder More information |
Is
the file about the workings of a particular organization but not for public
review? If so, it should go in the group folder (drive G:). |
| Other | Search! The library's
server (but this won't find files in the group folder). Go to the Library's or GCA's web sites. Contact the library administrator for assistance. |
Where not to save files: Never save files to the computer's local hard drive (Drive C)! If you do, they can only be accessed from that computer and they are not backed up on tape at night. The system administrator may remove files from a single computer's hard drive without warning, or may replace the entire computer.
