Here's what is happening at the local library!

December 2012 Library News

From the Gustavus Public Library
Where Volunteers are Our Foundation

The library is open 6 days a week!

Weekdays 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.    Mon.  & Wed. nights 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.    

Thurs. 10:00 a.m. - noon    Saturdays 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

December Programs and Activities:

-The Nature of our Holiday Traditions-a video-conference from the Royal Botanical Gardens exploring the traditions involving special plants of the season.  It will be at 1-2 pm on December 5th

-Best Beginnings Infant Play group is every Tuesday from 9:00am to noon for parents and children 0-3 years.

-Ukulele lessons for 6th through 12th grades and adults on Tuesday evenings at 5:30-7:00 pm.

 

-Knitting, Spinning & Fiber Arts on Thursdays from 10am-noon.  Experienced knitters will be there for guidance or to help you get started and to offer encouragement!

-Adult Beginner band with Kate and Ellie is on Thursdays, 5:00-7:00 pm.

-Little One’s Reading Time is on Friday mornings, 10:30-11:30am. Children should come with an adult.

-Yoga is on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7 pm.

-Christmas Story Hour at the Library-details about date and time will be announced.

Please note: The Library will be closed for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.  Have a wonderful holiday season!

Thanks to all of our desk sitters and volunteers: Allison Banks, Heather Sellards, Karie Tuaau, Kate Boesser, Fran Kelso, Rita Savage, Lynne Jensen, Christina Shook, Emma Johnson, Carole Baker, and Kim Warren.  Good-bye to Stephanie who is moving to Hawaii this month-we will miss you!

We have a lot of people to thank this month! Thank you to Mossy Mead for her donation of cheery new mouse pads. Thank you to the Kendle Family for donating copy paper and pencils to the library. Thank you to Alejandro Zarate for donating his time building our new podium.  Thank you to Kate Boesser for sanding the podium. 

Thanks to our Library Board Members for the time they put in; Eileen Clark, Rita Savage, Artemis Bona Dea, Lynne Jensen, and Karen Sargent.

NOVEMBER LIBRARY STATISTICS:  During November, 2012, we had 686 visitors (adults, school children, preschoolers, junior/senior high, in-house computer users, and library computer users), checked out 221 books, 3 CDS, and 267 movies; for a total of 491 items.  Programs included: city meetings, yoga, music lessons, Beginning Band, Best Beginnings Playtime, Thanksgiving Story Hour, Christianne’s program on her work in Africa, classroom visits, Writer’s Group, tutoring sessions, and internet use (both inside the building and out).
