BIKE AND HIKE Program on every other Friday:   Come to the library every other Friday at 10:00  (If you're new, bring your parent to sign the permission slip!).  We'll talk about what we're heading off to find:  Bring a water bottle, compass, and rain coat (if cloudy or rainy).  There will be a front biker and a "sweep" biker at the back of the line.  We'll be back by 12:00 noon, probably before, to look in our field guides and write down what we saw!  July 2:  Nagoonberry Trail; July 16:  looking for beach asparagus at the Gustavus beach with Judy Brakel; July 30:  at the Library, making Alphabet Nature books.

Help with Library "Weeding":  Every year the Library works a schedule of "weeding" out old, unread, broken books to make way for new donations and purchases.  This year, 2010, is a big year:  We will be weeding all adult and juvenile books in the 000, 100, 200, 300, 500, 600, and 800's. It takes 2 people to agree to the letting go of any one book.  If you would like to volunteer to help with this project, let us know at the front

JUNE LIBRARY STATISTICS:  During June, 2010, we had 1030 visits (adults, school children, preschoolers, jr/sr high, in-house computer users, library computer users), checked out 441 books, and 175 movies; for a total of 642 items.  Programs included:  Summer Reading Wednesdays; Bike and Hike Fridays; Reading Buddies reading; Summer School theater presentation;  NPS Sea Lion and Whale Entanglement slide show presentations; singing sessions;  piano lessons and piano playing; banjo, slow jam, and song sessions (with instruments); and a wonderful whittling workshop by Harvey Van Patten.
