Netscape Mail for GCN

How to configure Netscape Mail to work with your Gustavus Community Network mailbox

  1. Start Netscape as usual. Click edit on your menu bar and choose preferences. Click "Edit" on the menu bar, then choose "Preferencesd."
  2. The preferences window will appear. Click on the + symbol next to mail and news. Click identity. Change the settings to the ones shown below (use your own name and username instead of Nathan Borson and nborson, respectively). Netscape Preferences: Identity
  3. Click mail servers and change the outgoing mail (SMTP) server to mail.gustavus.ak.us. Leave the other settings alone. Netscape Preferences: Mail Servers
  4. In the incoming mail servers list, click the edit button. Change the settings to the ones shown below (using your own username instead of nborson). Netscape Preferernces: Incoming Mail Servers
  5. Click OK twice to close all the dialog boxes.
  6. Check your messages. You should get a welcome message from the Gustavus Community Network!
  7. If you are having any problems, close down Netscape completely and re-open it to make sure your changes took effect.
