Disposal & Recycling Center

The Mission of the Gustavus Disposal & Recycling Center and Community Chest is to reuse locally or to recycle as much material from the community's waste stream as possible. What cannot be reused or recycled is disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

The Disposal and Recycling Center (DRC) accepts a wide variety of recyclables, scrap metal, compostable food waste, some hazardous materials like car batteries, and waste to be landfilled. The DRC is located next to the small boat harbor in Gustavus. The Community Chest accepts gently used clothes, household goods, books, hardware, and small electronic devices to be resold through their volunteer-staffed store, with all proceeds benefiting the DRC. The Community Chest is located near the Gustavus airport, across the street from the Post Office.

Governance

The DRC and Community Chest are services of the City of Gustavus managed by the DRC Manager/ Operator
